Question : There are three men standing in a row. All are wearing hats. The hats were chosen from a set of three black and two white hats. Nobody knows which color he himself is wearing. But the man at the back knows the colors of other men’s hats and the man in the middle knows the color of first man’s hat.
The last man was asked whether he knew the color of his own hat. “No”,he said.
The man in the middle was asked the same question and he too said,”No.”
Now the first man was asked the same question and he said,”Yes,I know.”
Did he really know? If yes, what was the color? and how did he arrive at the answer?
Answer : Sorry guys, I don’t know the solution. If you know it, post as comment here. I can update here.
There are 3 black and 2 white hats. When the last guy was asked what hat he was wearing, the possible arrangement could be, he might be seeing
1) 2 Blacks in front,
2) 1 Black and 1 White,
3) 1 white and 1 black,
4) 2 Whites.
If it was option 4, he would have been sure that he is wearing a black as all the whites are used, but as he said no, that means this is not the right option.
And when the second guy was asked, if he saw a white he would have said black, but he said “no”, this means the first one is not white, so the first guy would say for sure that he is wearing a black hat.
